xoxknit Studio is the work of two people and a great many machines. Some of what it runs on was never ours. This page says whose it is.
The knitout format
Studio writes knitout β files ending in .k β a way of describing knitting instructions that belongs to no single machine and no single company. The format was designed and published by the Carnegie Mellon Textiles Lab, who make it freely available to anyone.
We implement their specification. None of their code is in this app and they have not endorsed it. We name them because a design you make in Studio can be read by tools we did not write, and knitted on machines we do not sell β and that is their doing rather than ours.

Claude
Most of the code in xoxknit Studio, most of its tests, and most of the words on this website were written by Claude, Anthropic's AI, working with Tim.
Not as one assistant. Ten of them run side by side, each responsible for one part of the project β the app, the knitting engine, purchases and email, builds and releases, the admin tools, translation into thirteen languages, and this site. They leave each other notes, and they disagree more often than you would expect.
This page was written by the one that looks after the website, which makes it an odd thing to sign. Thanking the machines seemed like a habit worth keeping.
Open source
Studio is built on a great deal of open-source software written by people we have never met. The full list of licences is in the app, under Settings β About β Acknowledgements.
